Lionsgate Home Entertainment have announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Clive Barker’s Book of Blood , based on the story penned by Clive Barker in the Books of Blood collection, on 26th October 2009. In the story a psychic researcher, Mary Florescu, employs medium Simon McNeal to investigate a haunted house. McNeal, at first, begins to fake his visions, but then real ghosts present themselves. They attack him and carve words in his flesh, and these words form the rest of the stories, stories written on a literal, living Book of Blood.

I have just started to realise how many blogs there actually are at the BBC, even if most of them are extremely hard to find unless one takes a look at the “ BBC News blogs ” area somewhere in the rightmost column of some blogs. For example I knew already of Richard Black’s blog , and there is a link to it in the BBC Science News page , but no trace at all in the “ BBC blog network “. Or perhaps I am not looking hard enough. Today I “discovered” Tom Feilden’s blog …only because Tom has sent a link to it to me.

After seeing Martha Stewart on CNBC this morning, I was surprised to find that she doesn’t sell a Martha Stewart-branded KA-Bar knife because she seems like she knows how to use one. Stewart appeared on TV to talk about the company’s new merchandising agreement with Home Depot. The hardware big-box retailer will offer a line of products sold under the Martha Stewart brand. Before they got too far into the interview, they talked about a similar program with discount retailer Kmart that ends in January 2010 — the same time that the Home Depot deal begins.

I find it amazing that we have fallen in values sold by -10% when comparing last year August figures with this year’s. I would have thought that at this point we be seeing a decline of no more than -5% to -8%. I crossed the border Sep 10th on my way to Surrey to then take light rail into downtown but, as no surprise, the plans changed. Phoned my friend Zoe whom I traveled a bit with in Cambodia and Thailand, and found out she lived only a couple miles from the border so easy enough, that is where I headed. Was welcomed into her family’s home with open arms, fed very well and provided a nights rest (called my hostel to adjust the booking).

Shameless for a Triton Fishing Boat You are welcome to be embarrassed for me, but I lied. I was at work going on and on about the amazing Triton fishing boat I had just purchased. I mean I spent weeks researching the best brand, which was hands down the Triton. I learned a lot more about boats than I had known with my father because while I was his only child and a daughter, I was also his fishing buddy. And going fishing with him was always better than being stuck at home with mom and her endless chores! He never thought to teach me much about how different boats can be.

I’m a pansy, I’ll admit it. I would never cut it in the health care profession, or as an emergency responder. I grow faint at the sight of anyone’s blood but my own (and for obvious reasons I’m not really a fan of that). I come close to passing out just being in the vicinity of a hospital. The sight of stitches poking out of flesh triggers my gag reflex. Cuts, abrasions, scabs, sores – ick. All of the above is cause for me to break out in a cold sweat. I haven’t always been this way.

I actually took some time “away” from blogging, commenting, and real estate “24-7” and had some down time and alone time with my husband in Show Low, Arizona, a wonderful little town located in the White Mountains just north and east of Mesa, Arizona 140 miles. I thought I would share just “some” of the things I chose to do during my down time, along with some photos: I learned to knit, played golf, and read, read, read.  Some sights of interest along our way to Show Low! Senators have hammered out a compromise that would allow unions to swell their ranks, and a key lawmaker said it should pass this year. Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) on Tuesday told the AFL-CIO convention in Pittsburgh that he has been working hard “for hours” on a deal with other key senators , such as Sens. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), as well as labor leaders, on the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA).   “We have pounded out an Employees Choice bill which will meet labor’s objectives,” Specter said.

What sort of person are you? It is surprising how much can be taken about someone’s tastes, lifestyle and aspirations simply from appreciating how they furnish their home. Someone who decks their rooms out with a hard flooring is likely to be a younger more sociable type of person. Compare that to someone whose tastes are for carpet, and your are likely to get someone who appreciates comfort and and cosiness. Modern surface types can certainly be wacky and wonderful.

Last night, as is no surprise to regular readers of this blog, I gave the presentation at the Raleigh.rb meetup . My presentation was titled Self Marketing: An Adventure in Jazz I thought it went well: the crowd was receptive, especially given it was a non-technical talk for a technical audience.  Never sure how people will react to that.
