It’s not a huge check, not enough for much more than a good dinner out, or a nice pair of shoes, or a new pair of earrings, but! It’s my first from “A Seasoning of Lust” and reflects that some readers out  there are buying the book. Yahoo!!!!  Ok, I am just thrilled because I didn’t EXPECT a royalty check at all…forgot about this possibility  because it’s just 6 months from the publication of the book and well, I just didn’t expect this.

Things got a little out of hand.  It’s been a… ride of a week.  If I had a time machine I would erase that one moment.. that one silly text that really. I hadn’t been classy. As it would turn out though, it was perfect timing.  Friday nights silly joking around text escalated into another defcon level.  It was time for a bit of a time out.  Hopefully it’s not a game over.  Only time will tell though.

Women face pressure from all directions these days.  Hit hard by the recession, trying to juggle family commitments with work and home life, it’s easy to feel like you’re running just to stand still. The media screams out an endless list of things still to do: get a bikini body in 20 days, plan the perfect children’s party, how to look 10 years younger.  Despite great strides forward in equality, women are still paid less than men, and generally still end up taking more responsibility for childcare and looking after elderly relatives.

McLouth originally sat out three games for the Braves. He played on Aug. 14 and then was forced to leave the game on the 15th early after re-injuring the hamstring. McLouth’s injury is considered mild and he is expected back directly after his 15-day stint.

and then I’m getting back to writing about writing, I swear *grin* I got home from Worldcon with the flu, so I’ve been medicated out of my head and curled up with a fever and racking cough this whole last week.  It has especially sucked because one of the good things to come out of Worldcon was that I came home with ideas leaping out of everywhere for all of my current projects and some totally new ones.  I feel like I just lost a week of my life, thanks flu! One of the things I meant to do right when I got home was give a more in-depth report on Worldcon.  But there are con reports out there and it’s been a week anyway, so I’m just going to mention a few thoughts and highlights.

When I was sixteen, I got busted for smoking. (Note: This is a disgusting, vile, stinky habit and, for the record, no one kissed me that night. But I was young and impressionable and not the paragon of virtue and self-confidence that I am today.) I was busted by an undercover cop who, to add insult to injury, was wearing a fanny pack.

This weekend Jen and I took a trip down to the city to visit some friends.  Now of course there are only two cities in the United States as far as I’m concern depending on which coast I am visiting.  If I am on the East coast it is New York City.  And if I’m home, it’s San Francisco.  Other places don’t have the honor of being called THE city… they are just plain ol’ Boston, Chicago, Sacramento.  That is unless it is Los Angeles… then it is just THE Hell Hole.

A couple times a year we dismiss church early and worship outside the walls by serving the community.  As the last night of the Assassins series , we looked briefly at Sloth.  We could have talked about laziness for 40 min, and gone about our normal routine.  Instead we had a 25 min worship gathering in the building then broke into groups in order to worship in the community by simple acts of kindness.

Yes I’m back home in the good old U.S.A. after a well needed vacation. The family is safe and sound and suffering from a mild case of jet lag AKA irritability after the long trip. This is a picture of the Swiss landscape taken from our window as we headed back over the pond. I’ll be posting the best shots from our trip as I get back into the swing of things. Thanks to Wyatt as usual for minding the store (and our house) while we were away and to everyone who stopped by and commented.

You may have noticed that Portello in Chandler (located just east of Alma School Road on Queen Creek Road) has taken on new life from its earlier demise.  Blandford Homes, a long established builder in the Phoenix area, acquired the project and has been aggressively building homes in the community.  If you didn’t know better, you would think that we were still in the midst of a building boom given the number of new homes going up there and the crews of workman working feverishly hard.
